I am currently the Assistant Head at Brinsley Primary School where I have responsibility for Key Stage Two, including attainment and progress, as well as whole-school lead for maths and ICT. My current role also sees me responsible for NQTs, RQTs as well as the undergraduates we take from Nottingham Trent University. Staff development is a passion of mine and something I thrive on. As Maths Lead, I have developed our curriculum intent carefully alongside SLT and staff to ensure that we, as a ‘Good’ school, deliver a curriculum full of opportunities to develop cross-curricular, mastery maths. Having guided Brinsley on the mastery journey, I have seen a huge improvement in attainment and progress but, more importantly, I have seen the children at Brinsley enjoy maths and thrive on the confidence they have gained in reasoning and problem solving. Having worked with Nottingham City schools as a Year 6 mentor, I have always shared good practise by showcasing lessons, taking other colleagues’ classes in order for them to see what could be achieved with their own students. I am experienced in using the only DFE approved schemes for maths: Power Maths and Maths No Problem. I have also been a leader of English for several years across a range of schools. In my current school, I worked with English Subject Leaders to increase the progress for writing in Key Stage Two. A particular success was using ICT to verbally mark boys’ writing, something which was so successful it went across the school. I have developed the English curriculum for Key Stage Two, ensuring genre coverage and developing a clear build up of skills to produce quality, well thought-out pieces of work.

At Alfreton Nursery School we endeavour to make every child’s unique learning journey an inspirational adventure
